Alan Burnett Obituary

BURNETT

ALAN 73, of Zephyrhills, and formerly of Howell, Michigan, passed away November 21, 2016. He was born November 3, 1943 in Childersburg, Alabama. He was an educator and coach at Brighton High School for 27 years and coached football and basketball at Howell High School from 1974-1980. In 1991, he finished his coaching career at Whitmore Lake High School and Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard High School. Al dedicated his life to youth sports. Along the way he influenced many young men to be leaders and better men. In his later years, he adopted Berkeley Preparatory School of Tampa, Florida as a fan and scout and was an avid supporter of their athletic programs. His love of America will continue on with anyone he came in contact with, especially his wife and son. The world is a better place because he was here. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Barb; one son, Alan Burnett II; three grandsons, Alan III, Nathan, and Preston; and his best friend, Dr. Phil Milner and family.

I was searching to find Al and Barb and just saw this message of the "Big Guys" passing . I am so sorry Barb and Alan.
I can honestly tell you i have thought of you all often throughout my life. The basketball games, the races, the times we all shared. It was a blessing, and Mr. B will surely be missed.
Much love,
Terry, Teresa

Al has been a part of our lives since his early years at Brighton and into Whitmore Lake. We followed his love of sports and his family life throughout these times. He and Barb and our "Little Al" will be in our thoughts.

Riley and I were so sad to hear about Al's passing. It was always so much fun to hear his comments and game insights during BPS basketball. I know the team will miss him greatly as will you & Al. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

My condolences to the Burnett family and loved ones. Al and I were friends at Olivet College and later in the coaching profession . We called him " Smiley " for all the right reasons. God's blessing to Al and his Loved Ones. Frank Plecas

Sorry to learn of Al's passing. I was his English Department chair for many years, and when scheduling got crazy, he would always say assign me whatever classes makes the schedule work and your life easier. He loved teaching and he loved coaching. (Paper checking, not so much!) He will be missed.
