Francisco Carranco, Jr.
07/15/1946 - 10/31/2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Francisco Carranco Jr., who departed this life on October 31, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on July 15, 1946, Francisco was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.
Francisco was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. At 20, he joined the United States Air Force, married on Christmas Day and moved to Denver, Colorado, after a 3-day pass, to marry his wife, Lupita as he usually called her through his marriage of 58 yrs. Francisco was stationed at Lowry (SAC) and later Beale Air Force Base. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1969 and stationed in Phuket. His unit supported strategic reconnaissance aircraft, which helped gather intelligence over conflict zones.
He worked for the U.S. Government Social Security Administration for 32 years, the majority of that time as a Claims Representative. Francisco assisted his fellow co-workers apply for promotions and address workplace concerns with supervisors, which earned him the respect of officers and supervisors. He was promoted to Supervisor to the Del Rio SSA Office, but decided supervisory work was not for him. He returned to Laredo as he felt his family came first, but also because he believed he could better serve his community by interacting with individuals on a 1:1 basis.
Francisco was known for his love of family, his kindness and compassion for others. He supported his children, nieces, nephews, by always cheering them on at their recitals, sporting events and other milestones in their lives. He was the first person to help anyone out in any way he could. He was an advocate for others through his involvement with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Texas CASA-Court Appointed Special Advocates.
Friends and family will remember Francisco not just for his love of books, movies and music, but how he taught us to appreciate the way that words, stories and songs connected us all and created memories that we would carry throughout our lives, in both good and bad times.
Francisco and his wife moved to San Antonio in June 2020 where they were residing at the time of his passing.
In addition to his contributions to his family and career, Francisco's selfless act as a tissue donor will help save the lives of between 50 to 300 individuals, a testament to his unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of others even after his passing.
He is preceded in death by his cherished parents, Francisco Carranco and Maria De Jesus Carranco, whose influence shaped the man he became.
Francisco is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Guadalupe Carranco. Together, they nurtured a family that includes their cherished children: Cynthia I. Carranco, Francisco (Anjanette) Carranco III, and Carmen C. Carranco. He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, Joaquin F. Carranco and Gavin Garcia, who brought him immense joy. His memory will live on in the hearts of his sibling, Carmen C. Acosta, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, including Melinda Acosta and Vicente Acosta, along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
