MARIA DEL "CARMEN" SALAZAR
05/12/1934 - 11/02/2025
Maria del "Carmen" Salazar, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in McAllen, Texas, on Sunday, November 2, 2025. She was born on May 12, 1934, in Laredo, Texas and lived a long and full life marked by dedication, grace, kindness, and strength.
Carmen was the daughter of Jose and Luz Rodriguez and was the second of five siblings. She graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas. For over three decades, Carmen had a successful career as a valued employee of Southwestern Bell/AT&T where her strong work ethic, reliability, and kind heart made her a cherished colleague. Her warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone she worked with.
Outside of her career, Carmen took immense pride in serving her community. She spent many years proudly serving as an election judge for early voting in the City of McAllen. She also volunteered countless hours in the McAllen School District, mentoring and working one-on-one with elementary students. Carmen cherished her family and her faith, which guided her throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother. Married to Ramiro E. Salazar for 60 years, her dedication and love for him were unwavering, serving as a shining example for all who knew her. Carmen's kindness and generosity touched everyone around her; she cared deeply for others, always giving to those in need, sharing joy and laughter, telling stories, dancing, and enjoying music with her loved ones. She had a generous heart as big as Texas and was always ready to listen and offer words of encouragement. Her legacy of love, faith and service will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ramiro. She is survived by her three children, Sandra Salazar Scott (Tucker), Carmella Salazar, and Ramiro "Reggie" Salazar (Lauri), and four grandchildren, Harrison Scott, Olivia Scott, Sadie Luz Salazar, and Owen Salazar. Carmen is also survived by her older brother Jose Rodriguez and her younger sister Luisa Garcia, and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to her caregivers for their years of dedication and tender loving care.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. The mass will be on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, followed by internment at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen
