Barbara Bowen Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara "Lynn" (Saylors Bowen), born on August 30th, 1956 in Oakland California and passed on April 5th 2025. Lynn spent her childhood in La Puente, CA while also summering in Oregon and Washington with family.
She graduated from William Workman High School in 1974 and went on to a career in sales. Early in her career she worked for a nuts and bolts company and she was proud that she helped sell the nuts and bolts that were used to build the car famously known as 'Kit', from the popular television show Knight Rider. Lynn went on to become one of the first sales representatives for the California Lottery in 1985; a job she enjoyed immensely and retired from after 25 years.
Lynn was incredibly loving to her friends, family members, and friends who became family. She was known as a wonderful cook and we will all miss her desserts, potato salad, beef stew, holiday feasts, and countless other delicious dishes that will never be the same without her touch. Lynn was also an accomplished seamstress and sewed many lovely costumes for her grandchildren. She also sewed all of the outfits for her youngest son's Renaissance themed wedding, for which she won several first-place ribbons at the Kern County Fair.
Her favorite times were when she was surrounded by friends and family. No one loved a party like Lynn. Holidays were always full of joy and laughter. She had an oversized sense of humor and a knack for oversharing and saying outrageously inappropriate but hilarious things. She was sassy, bold and outspoken, living life unfiltered, and she loved to laugh.
Lynn was incredibly generous and her home was always open to family and friends who became family. She and her husband took in many people over the years who needed a place to stay.
Lynn is survived by her loving husband of 48 years; Jimmy Carlyle Bowen, her three sons; Jimmy Bowen, Kelly Bowen, and Richard Bowen; as well as her nine precious grandchildren. Though she is gone far too soon, we know she lived her life exactly as she wanted, and we will always treasure our many memories of love, food, hugs, music, laughter, and togetherness. Cheers to you Lynn! Whenever we see a sexy horse, we will think of you and smile.
