Bernadine Warren Obituary
Bernadine Lourdes Warren (Garcia), age 84, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024 with family by her side. A loving and devoted wife, mother & grandmother; she will be deeply missed.
Bernadine was the daughter of Azores immigrants, Frank and Maria Garcia, and grew up on her family's farm in Los Banos with her sister Mary. She was very proud of her "100%" Portuguese heritage and spoke fluently. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Elementary before attending Los Banos High where she met her first love, William Colbert. In her free time, Bernadine was a cheerleader and was known to be quite feisty despite being 4'11".
After graduation, Bernadine moved to San Jose and received her Cosmetology license. William and Bernadine were married at 21 years of age and eventually moved to San Luis Obispo. William graduated from Cal Poly and they moved to Lodi in 1968 shortly after the birth of their first son, Kurtis. Their second son, Chris, was born 3 years later.
Bernadine was an independent beautician in the Lodi area for almost 5 decades. She loved her work and enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people. She would even routinely service her older clients at their homes. She worked at a few salons over the years including JD's in the seventies and most recently Salon Salon with her good friend Jayne Bradley. In her spare time, she enjoyed socializing with friends, painting and doing all sorts of crafts. She raised her "boys" as a single parent for several years in the late seventies and was very proud that she did so without needing assistance.
Bernadine married her second love, Wayne, in 1979. They were truly in love and shared many good times together with friends and family over 43 years! Wayne passed away in 2022 and mom's heart was forever broken. She loved him and her step family. It is comforting to know that she will be joining Wayne, her parents, family and friends that she loved so much in heaven. They will be missed tremendously.
Family meant everything to Bernadine. She was a devoted mother, always bragged about her "boys" and dreamed of becoming a grandmother. Her dreams came true with her two grandchildren, Eric and Katie. She loved spending time with (spoiling) them and cherished watching them grow into mature, respectful and successful young adults.
Bernadine suffered from a long term illness, but was determined to live her life surrounded by family and friends. She extended daily appreciation for the care that she received from her devoted daughter in-law, Carrie Colbert, and Bristol Hospice. We cannot thank them enough as without their love and support she would not have been able to spend the last years at home with her family. She is survived by her two sons, Chris Colbert (Carrie), Kurtis Colbert (Maggie), two grandchildren Eric and Katie and many extended family members.
Bernadine was laid to rest in a private ceremony on October 18, 2024 at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery. She will be dearly missed by her family as well as all who knew and loved her. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a future date. Bernadine was passionate about religion and the military. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local church and/or veterans foundation in her memory.
