Donald Mehlhaff Obituary

Don was born in 1947 in Eureka, So. Dakota to Ervin and Florence Mehlhaff. He passed away at home at the age of 77. In 1960, his family moved to Lodi, where he started attending Needham Elementary School. He went on to graduate from Lodi High School in 1965. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 where he was stationed in S. Korea as a Clerk Typist in a MASH unit and honorably discharged in 1968. He continued his education at Barber College and briefly worked in his Uncle Bill Fischer's barber shop.
Don married Nancy Clarkson in November 1970 and began working at Gemco in Stockton. Son, Ryan, was born in 1975 and daughter, Lori, completed their family in 1976. He later transferred to Lucky's Grocery Store in Lodi where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 2003.
He loved sharing his love of camping with his family at his favorite places, Bodega Bay and Fallen Leaf Lake. He loved being outdoors hiking, fishing, kayaking, biking, and gardening. He prided himself at being a perfectionist in every way. He was very patriotic and extremely proud of his family.
After Don's retirement, he joined Tree Lodi in 2010 as a volunteer with Nancy and mother-in-law, Joyce Harmon. Don and Nancy recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary.
Don is survived by his wife, Nancy, Son Ryan (Jenny), Daughter Lori Satterfield (Doug), Grand-children; Kaitlyn, Ryan, and Reid Satterfield. He is also survived by his three brothers; Duane (Debby), Charlie (Wayna), and Brian (Jackie), along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Joyce Harmon, brother-in-law, Thomas (Jill) Clarkson and sister-in-law, Barbara Valente. Don was predeceased by his parents, two fathers-in-law, two uncles, two aunts, and one brother-in-law.
In place of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated at PALS HAVEN and Hospice of San Joaquin. A celebration of life will be held at a later time.

Don was truly the best father in law anyone could ask for. He was always willing to help Ryan and I with anything we needed. I admired his love for his family and his home. He had so much pride in his beautiful home- oh, and his garage!!! Immaculate, so clean!!! He got us into having bird feeders and now we have those little birds to remind us of him. He was absolutely the best and will be truly missed! See you again Dad!
Love you

My condolences to the family of a very nice man from LUCKY´s. I remember him from school and I would bring up his brother, Dwayne to him, asking how he was doing. He seemed to always smile and took his job seriously, but fun also. One day I will get to talk to him again and see that friendly smile. May God Bless him and his family and friends.

Dad, I´m not sure what to say here. I can´t believe you are gone. I see you everyday in the birds that visit me, I hear you in their song. I know you are with me. I feel you watching over us in that silent, wonderful way you always did. You were the best Dad and I am blessed to be a part of you. You will always be in my heart, I am filled with wonderful memories that you have given me. Thank you for every moment, I only wish I knew then to never take advantage of a single one.
You stepped into the Papa phase with ease and loved all 3 of our kids with everything you had. We will forever miss you. But we will be together again, of that I´m sure.

Don was great. I don't know anyone who could say a bad word about him. I remember the candy apple red corveir with the corduroy interior he put together in the plastic case. Never forget it. Mom and Dad loved when he babysat us kids. The house was always spotless when they got home. We were all blessed to to be a part of his life.

Don,
My forever big brother.
You were everything a brother could ever want. I have so many memories that I have kept in my mind and heart all these years.
My first hot wheel set that you bought for me,my first two wheel bike that you took apart, painted, put new tires, and a banana seat with the sissy bar.
I was the happiest kid on the block.
When we were older kiacking together on the lake, I could go on and on.
Along with Mom and Dad you taught me how important family is, because in the end it is all you really have.
And now you are gone, but I know you are with Mom and Dad watching over us.
Until we meet again.
I love you,
Brian

Don; the Son a Mom & Dad hope for, a Husband a Wife wishes for, a Dad or Granddad a Child hopes for & a True Friend to So Many. You were "Perfectionist" & I Admired that in You. You put the bar up High so that most wouldn´t or couldn´t reach it. The World was a Better & more Beautiful Place with You in it. But You´ve left Us now & all I have is a Great, Wonderful, Hilarious Memories of You. I Always looked up to You. You were the Leader; the One to Follow.....Love Never Dies! I´ll Always Love You: Never forget You. Thank You Don for being My Awesome Big Brother. Love Forever......Charlie
