George John Taylor took his last breath on October 15, 2025. In passing on to the next life, he left behind a beloved wife Ann (Lawson) Taylor; children Zackary Taylor and Amanda (Taylor) Knapp; grandchildren Ethan, Ava, and Mia Knapp; brother Dennis Taylor; sister Kimberlee (Stupke) Adonna. George was preceded in death by his father H. George Taylor and his mother Jacquelyn (Busk) Stupke. He was laid to rest on October 18, 2025, surrounded by loving tributes from his family and friends.
Born in Staten Island, where his father served in the Navy, George was raised in southern California, where he loved to build model cars, body surf, and show off his 1959 T-Bird. He participated in B'nai B'rith and was bar mitzvahed at Temple Shalom in West Covina.
He attended Stanislaus State College, where he graduated with a BS in Psychology in 1972. It was there that he met his wife Ann, "a brown-eyed girl with a red Volkswagen." He wooed Ann with daily letters as he traveled through Europe, and told her when he returned that it would be "the ultimate bummer" if they didn't stay together.
Ann and George were married in 1973 and celebrated 52 years of marriage in February. George was a devoted father who coached soccer and took the family on road trips, backpacking, and canoe camping. He loved spending time behind a lens, be it a camera, a video camera, or even a telescope. He quietly practiced guitar while his children slept, and listened to music all day long.
George worked hard to support his family, working in retail and industrial management until he returned to school to pursue his master's degree in 1990. With his MS in School Psychology and Counseling, he then devoted himself to serving the children, families, teachers, and staff of the Lincoln and Elk Grove Unified School Districts for a combined twenty years until his retirement.
Once retired, he could often be found in his shop, doing woodworking projects and restoring antique tools. He was also proud to join the Sons of the American Revolution.
A spiritual man, George recognized Jesus Christ as the Messiah in 2001. He then joined and served as a Deacon at Sierra Baptist Church in Pioneer, California, and later joined Temple Baptist / Gracepoint Church in Lodi, California. Those wishing to honor George may send donations to
Samaritan's Purse or the Lodi
Salvation Army.
