Gorman Day Obituary

M. Gorman Day, Jr. died on May 2, 2013 as the result of a health-care acquired MRSA infection. His many friends remember Gorman as an intelligent businessman, a sincere and honest colleague and always willing to help.
He was born in Fillmore, Utah on January 17, 1928, to LaVieve and M. Gorman Day, and was raised in his family's hotel and coal trucking businesses. He graduated from Millard High School where he excelled in track and basketball.
At 18 Gorman enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following basic training he married his first wife Laura George, also from Fillmore. He then deployed to Tsingtao, China, onboard the hospital ship USS Repose. Following two years in the Navy, Gorman attended Utah State University and began a successful career owning several trucking companies, operating them from Salt Lake City, UT, Spokane, WA, Portland, OR, and Los Angeles, CA. He also owned and operated a Peterbilt Truck and John Deere farm equipment dealership in Grand Junction, CO. For 15 years he owned DACA Trucking in Lodi with 60 refrigerated trucks hauling fresh pork from the Midwest to Lodi for the Goehring Meat Company. After retiring from his trucking business he built custom homes, also in the Lodi area.
Gorman was a member of the Woodbridge Golf & Country Club, the Elks, and the Odd Fellows. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gloria Day; his son Mark and wife Arlene; his stepson John H. Caudill, Jr and wife Lynnelle.; his son-in-law Patrick O'Neil; his granddaughter Brandi Eliason and husband Dave; his grandson Sean O'Neil and wife Carrie; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his four older sisters, Mary, Norma, Ramon and Coleen, and beloved daughter Laurraine O'Neil.
A service for Gorman will be held at Lodi Funeral Home on May 14 at 11:00 a.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Hospice House of San Joaquin at 3888 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95204.

Gorman was a very bright, direct individual, who did not give up easily. He fought strong and hard. We will miss him very much. Ed & Cindy
