Graeme Stewart Obituary

Graeme Stewart, age 90, passed away on Dec 7th 2012 with two of his children at his bedside, in his home in Lockeford, CA.
He was born in Portland Oregon, November 1, 1922. His father was William Edgar Stewart, M.D. He attended school where he graduated and then completed two-years at Oregon State before leaving and following his passion of ranching on his family ranches in northern California. After purchasing his own ranch in Doris, Ca., he expanded to a second ranch in Redding, Ca., where he met his wife Jackie, of 60 yrs., married in 1952. He had a successful career in training and showing horses throughout North America. During a 5yr stint of ranching in British Columbia, Canada, he was honored to meet Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. After winning the Open Cutting Horse Competition at the Calgary Stampede, he was asked by the Royal Family to tour Britain with his champion horses.
His raising, training, and teaching all aspects of horsemanship continued back in the U.S.A. until 1978 where he settled in Lodi, Ca., and became the Lodi Grape Festival Manager in 1978 - 1992. His passions in life were his wife and family and all things horses. One of his many achievements and honors, and the high point in his career was being inducted into The Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his sister Pat Stewart of Portland, Or., his children Roberta Trujillo of Montrose, Co., Don (Vicki) Stewart of Melbourne, Fl., Carol Stewart of Williamsburg, Va., Grandsons Matt Stewart of Ct., Eric Aalbue of Co., Granddaughters Kelly Aalbue of Co., Michelle (Romulo) Maciel of Va., and Sarah Stewart of Az., and Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents, sons William and Robert, and his wife Jackie.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation and book signing on December 15th at Lodi Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.

Dad G and mom J were my hanai parents, his son Bob and I were best friends in the late 70's,. Graeme headed up the Placerville Fair grounds. shortly after bob passed i moved to Maui and mom and dad stewart always came to vist me in hawaii over a 30 year period. These two were gems and dad always charmed the ladies, even in front of mom. He maid people laugh and always with a warm heat. He was one of the founders of the pacific coast cutters association in 1949 and was inducted into the hall of fame for his work with horses in 2006. He was an amazing human being with tons of wisdom, he mom and bob are together again.

Graeme loved kids. When he was our bus driver in the early 60's, he would bring ice creame to hand out on the last day of school. He was also a great neighbor. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

Graeme and Jackie were in our lives when he was Grape Festival Manager. He was a man who gave all of himself to that job and worked with the Board of Directors to get things done. My relationship with Graeme was one of friendship and respect. He will be missed.

The horse world lost one of the greats. I had the honor of calling Graeme my teacher. The only comfort is that he and Bob are back together.

My sisters and I took riding lessons from Graeme in Olympia, Washington, in the early 70's. He taught us much more than horsemanship....life lessons were given with humor and love.

I met Graeme 8 years ago through the office I work in and quickly realized what a special person he was. We shared a love for horses and enjoyed spending time at the ranch together and eating dinners at George's. He and his wife Jackie became like family to my husband and I. We miss them both and find peace knowing they are together again. My thoughts are with all of you.

I met Graeme 7 years ago at Delta Physical Therapy and if anyone knows Graeme they knew what a nice, caring, and funny guy he was. He was always a pleasure to talk to and will forever be missed.

I worked with Graeme and Jackie at the Lodi Grape Festival back in 1980. Graeme was great. Always caring and very dedicated. That time has lots of good memories for me. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
