Mary Jane Ballatore Obituary
Mary Jane taught piano in the Springfield area for 22 years, then after a move to Lodi in 1957 taught piano for another 22 years. She and her family were members of Lodi's St. Anne's Catholic Church, where she and Dante worked to fund the St. Anne's School Hall and were known for providing the after-mass coffee and donuts for over 20 years. She loved music and the arts and served on the Community Concert board from 1962, selling season tickets until 2021, was instrumental in creating the Lodi Symphony and was an active member of the Lodi Arts Council. With her sister, Ann Chargin, she supported the Stockton Symphony, and loved going to live local concerts and theater.
Mary Jane was devoted to her family in the US and Italy. She is survived by her sister Ann Chargin, her son Dante Jr (Donna) and grandsons Michael and Scott, daughter Lynne (Dan) and grandson Julian (Lachyn), nephew Nick Chargin, his children Dylan, Nicola (Elio) and children Mateo and Caden. Devoted to family, she kept in touch with her 18 nieces and nephews and their families throughout the country, as well as extended family in Canada and throughout Italy.
A memorial mass and reception for Mary Jane will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Lodi on May 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM.

I have special memories of Mary Jane and she was always a caring part of our extended family. Over the years, she researched the many relatives that were part of the large Discenza family. She was our historian and to say Mary Jane will be missed, is an understatement!

As a young piano student of Mrs. Ballatore I remember when she first played the theme from Moulin Rouge for me during a lesson, and I cried because it was so beautiful. I was embarrassed to be crying and she said to me that music had the power to do that to people. She always made me feel normal, she was very kind and caring. She took me to the Stockton Symphony just the two of us. Mrs. Ballatore was such a treasure and I loved her.
