Raymond Farmer Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Raymond E. Farmer, Jr., MD, this past November. Born February 3, 1949, to Olivia S. (Herceg) Farmer and Raymond E. Farmer, Sr., Ray grew up in Stockton. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Palo Alto Military Academy, and St. Mary's High School. After graduating high school, he enrolled in University of the Pacific where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and went on to work in local area retail pharmacies for several years. Ray then pursued his dream of becoming a doctor. He received his M.D. from the medical school at University of Nevada, Reno, interned at San Joaquin General Hospital, and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at University of Southern California. Ray started his medical practice in the Central Coast and Central Valley of California, but ultimately returned to his home in Stockton, spending the majority of his career at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Ray loved the thrill of outdoor adventures. Everything from surfing at sites all along the California coast to snow skiing in Tahoe. He couldn't resist the excitement of fast cars and motorcycles, yet he also enjoyed the peacefulness of scuba diving and hiking with his three beloved Rottweiler dogs. Ray was always ready and willing to try the next challenge, often forgetting that some activities should probably not be tried after a certain age. Despite his frequent banter about moving to other exotic locations, we always knew he would not stray too far from his life-long home, cherished friends, and loving family in the Northern San Joaquin Valley.
Ray was generous, spontaneous, and curious. He had a sharp sense of humor and the natural ability to spin a good story. He valued education, loved learning about potential new hobbies, and was always on top of current events and the stock market. He will be forever in the thoughts and hearts of his family and friends who miss him dearly.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ray. I attended medical school with him at the University of Nevada, Reno upon his transfer from Guadalajara. I found him to be very personable and friendly. He fit right into our class.

We kept in touch after graduation and I saw him a few times over the years as we discussed careers etc.

On behalf of the Class of 1982, UNR School of Medicine, as Class President, I want to send the family and friends our deepest sympathy.

Ray, my friend and colleague, RIP.

Such a wonderful write up in the paper! The
characters mentioned were all a part of his
personality. I had the honor of feeding the
rottweilers and he was crazy about those dogs.
I have a picture of my daughter with them in
my office.

Ray was kind enough to stay in the operating room
as Ron Alt did surgery on my beloved husband. It
gave me great comfort knowing he was there.

May he rest in peace with his loving Mother who
passed away as he graduated from med school.

So very sorry to hear about Ray's passing! We went all through high school together and then to college together also at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, where I was also a "Little sister of SAE", his fraternity. He will be greatly missed by many.

Sorry to hear of Ray's passing. I have fond High School memories. I will always remember him as kind and always very calm. I remember running into Ray at a bagel shop one morning and was surprised to learn that he knew my oldest son. They had met of all places in an operating room. They shared the same profession. May you rest in peace ny friend.

I am very sorry to hear about Ray. I went to medical school with him in Guadalajara. I met him on the plane down there along with Dr Robert Schingler. (Another pharmacist going to medical school). Since I didn't know anyone down there, we all planned to rent a house and live together near the school. I ended up living with a Mexican family instead but since we registered at the same time, we had our classes together as they formed classes according to your registration number. I have been an OB/Gyn in Lodi since 1984.
