Sue Sharb Obituary

Sue Ellen Sharb, 77, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024.

Sue was born on Feb. 25, 1947, in Logan, Ohio, and lived the majority of her life there. She was the elder daughter of George William and Beulah Mae (Bachus) Geiger, both deceased.

Sue grew up in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1964 alongside her husband Robert Lee Sharb, deceased (2016). The two married not long after high school, and their two sons followed in 1966 and 1970.

No mother was more committed to her children. After a period of years raising her sons, Sue returned to work, serving as a secretary for the Hocking County Cooperative Extension Service. Her work for the Cooperative Extension Service continued through retirement and brought her into contact with three things that she loved more than most anything: children, animals and The Ohio State University (not necessarily in that order). During this time, she worked with the Hocking County 4-H, was a volunteer at the Hocking County Fair and consumed her fair share of fair fries (which she also loved).

In the early 1970s, Sue and Bob built a house on land adjoining George and Beulah's on Geiger Road. In the country setting, she raised her children and a long series of beloved pets including dogs, cats and goats. Sue never met an animal she didn't like, and the feeling was mutual. Sensing her innate warmth and kindness, animals of all types flocked to Sue as moths to a porch light - including the two cats living with her when she passed (rumors persist that the proudly self-proclaimed "cat lady" was in the process of recruiting a third at the time of her passing).

Sue was a "Buckeye for Life" and a long-time football season ticket holder. Although rarely in attendance at The Shoe, she watched all the games and delighted in her family's use of her tickets. Each year, at the time of the Buckeyes' annual bowl game, Sue's grandchildren anxiously awaited the heaping basket of peanut clusters with which she marked the occasion.

Sue remained in close contact with many members of her extended family and high school friends throughout her life and they were a supporting and sustaining presence to her.

Health challenges beset Sue in her later years. She faced those as she faced all of life's challenges, with dignity and perseverance (and humor).

Sue is survived by her sons Michael L. (Andrea) Sharb of Westlake, Ohio, and Matthew L. Sharb of Crownsville, Maryland; two grandchildren, Clayton and Zachary (Hannah) Sharb; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Savannah Sharb; and sister Cathy Avers (Steven) of Denver, Colorado. All will miss her extraordinary kindness, and occasional zaniness, beyond words.

At Sue's express wish, there will be no services. For those inclined, donations in her name are encouraged to the Hocking County Humane Society.

The family is being served by Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio.
