William Brown Obituary

William "Bill" Albert Brown of Ashburn, Virginia passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2024. Bill was an amazing husband to his late wife, Kathy, and beloved father to Andrew. Bill was born to the late Harold Maywood and Theresa Margaret (Kaiser) Brown on Aug. 30, 1945 in Logan, Ohio, and spent the past 35 years in Ashburn, Virginia.

Bill met Kathy in 1970 at Kent State University in Ohio. Upon graduation from Kent, Kathy earned her PhD in geography from University of Minnesota and moved back to Ohio. In 1974, they were married in Colts Neck, New Jersey. Kathy earned a job at the University of Michigan teaching geography, and they began their life together in Ann Arbor. They continued to live and work in Ann Arbor until the 80s, and in 1986, Andrew was born.

In 1990, Bill began working for Loudoun County Government and moved the family to their forever home in Ashburn, Virginia where they raised Andrew. Bill had several other jobs throughout the years, including working at CSI Disposal and Old Dominion Brewery, but ultimately returned to Loudoun County Government. He spent over 20 years working for the county, ending his career with the Department of Building and Development. He retired in 2020.

Bill was an avid automotive and motorcycle enthusiast, a passion he passed on to Andrew. He enjoyed autocrossing Saabs while living in Michigan, and riding his BMW motorcycle through western Loudoun in his later years. He had also bought a classic truck to drive and restore.

He was also a beer connoisseur and always enjoyed a cold, craft beer with his son, friends, and other family. Since working at Old Dominion Brewery, Bill took up homebrewing in his garage. He built quite the beer operation where he was involved with several homebrewing groups.

Bill had always been a part of the Catholic church, joining St. Theresa in the early 90s. He loved staying active in the church, volunteering for various events. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus chapter where he reached the highest rank, the Fourth Degree.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Jean; and his beloved wife, Kathy.

Bill is survived by his son, Andrew (Melissa) and their dog Lilly; brother Tom (Peggy); sister Jane; and brother Ed (Paula).
