Viola Plath Obituary

Viola Mae Plath Viola Mae Plath was born on October 8, 1927, in Pisgah, Iowa to Charles Dean and Anna Leora (Perrin) Mann. She grew up in Pisgah and graduated from the Pisgah High School in 1945. Viola worked as a waitress for various businesses in Mapleton and Sioux City and was also a cashier at the Pisgah Savings Bank. Viola was married to Bernard Plath on August 21, 1949, in the RLDS Church in Pisgah. The couple moved to Bernard's family farm and farmed there all of their married life. Bernard died in 1998 and Viola moved to Woodbine. Viola was a member of the Community of Christ Church. She worked with Bernard on the farm and enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking and cooking. She loved her cats and chickens. Viola enjoyed quilting at the Golden Age Center and was a member of the Parent Music Association (PMA) at the Logan Magnolia Schools. She was also very active in the 4-H program. Most of all, she loved the time she was able to spend with her family and siblings. Viola died on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Azria Health Rosa Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 94 years and 23 days. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Dean Plath; two brothers, Loren and Jerald "Jerry" Mann; and two sisters, Nola Chapman and Norma Hardt. She is survived by her son, Allen Plath and his wife Glenna of Pisgah; two granddaughters, Karen and her husband Philip Kass of LeMars, Iowa and Sarah Plath of Los Angeles, California; three step-grandchildren, Jim Guttau of Phoenix, Arizona, Gwen and her husband Matt Pross of Maxwell, Iowa and Mick Guttau and his wife Amanda of Center Point, Iowa; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley and her husband Terry Weldon of Onawa, Iowa, Duane Mann of Woodbine and Ronnie Mann and his wife Diane of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 Community of Christ in Woodbine, Iowa. Officiating was Elder Noel Sherer musicians were Kathy Waite and Julie Mann Calvert sang "The Lord's Prayer". Recorded musical selection "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver. Pallbearers were Kevin Mann, Dennis Hardt, Brian Mann, David Mann, Cyndy Johnson, Ann Smith and Kim Jacobs. Final Resting Place was at the Magnolia Cemetery Magnolia, Iowa. Fouts Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
