Allen Berman (1927-2012)
Allen Berman passed away peacefully on January 20, 2012. Allen was born in New York City and spent his childhood in the Bronx. He spent most of his professional life in New Jersey and returned to New York in his final years. He received his Engineering degree from CCNY. His education was interrupted by service in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army and a tour of duty during the Korean War. When Allen returned home, he earned his Masters in Engineering from NYU.
Allen spent his professional career working first on the X-15 Rocket engine and then for the U.S Army and the Department of Defense at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. He made numerous contributions to the war efforts during the Vietnam War and first Gulf War. During his career he was frequently called upon to brief the Secretary of Defense.
Allen and his wife Naomi (deceased) had two children: Scott K. Berman M.D. of Hartsdale, N.Y and Craig J. Berman (deceased).
Allen will be missed by his brother, Charles Berman, his son Scott K. Berman M.D., his daughter in law Dorothy Berman, and his five grandchildren, David , Matthew , Christopher , Elizabeth , and Rachel.
Allen loved his work. He loved to fish, dance, and had a wonderful sense of humor. If you told him the punchline to any joke, he could tell you the entire joke.
