Ann Parks Widmer, a thirty six year resident of Katonah, NY died on May 7, 2000 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. Born in New York City on July 1, 1931 she was raised in Kingston, RI where her parents, W. George and Margaret Merriman Parks, were professors at the University of Rhode Island. She graduated from the Baldwin School in Byrn Mawr, PA in 1949 and from Vascar College in 1953 as a chemistry major. In 1955 she received a MS degree in physical chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in University Park. For the next ten years she pursued a career in chemical research, first at Eastern Kodak Company in Rochester, NY and then at the IBM Research Center in Yorktown, NY. She published a number of scientific articles and served as Editor of the Digest of Literature on Dielectrics. In 1962 she married Albert Widmer and they moved to Katonah, NY to raise their children. She was a very active volunteer in the community. She served on the Boards of the Katonah Library, the Katonah Village Improvement Society, and the PTA at Katonah Elementary School. She was President of the PTA at John Jay Junior High School and of the PTA Council. She held Leadership positions with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and taught religion at St. Mary's Church. For over thirty years she enjoyed positions serving the Woman's Civic Club of Katonah, including President. She was treasurer of the Katonah Thrift Shop for ten years, and she also served the Westchester County Federation of Woman's Clubs. For over fifty years, she was a summer resident of New London, NH, where she especially enjoyed swimming, walking and biking. Survivors include her husband, a son George of Costa Mesa, CA, a daughter Gretchen Ehrensperger of Glendale, CA, nieces and nephews. A brother, Chip, predeceased her. Calling hours will be at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah, from 5 PM to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 12th. The Funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Church In Katonah at 10 Am on Saturday, May 13th. Interment on Monday, May 15 in New Londaon, NH.
