ARNOLD REIF Obituary

October 21, 1938 - July 4, 2009 Arnold S. Reif, Emmy-Award Winning Television Director and longtime Sloatsburg resident, passed away Saturday at the age of 70. Arnold was very involved in civic and government activities, including serving 44 years in the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department as volunteer, Ex-Chief and Past President. He also served on the Sloatsburg Village Board, was Deputy Mayor, Chairman of the Sloatsburg Planning Board, and was Police Commissioner for the Town of Ramapo. He served as Chairman of the Sloatsburg Village Democratic Committee. He was also a member of the Dundenberg Masonic Lodge in Peekskill, and a member of the Marine Reserves. During a long career in television, he was an innovator in developing the point of view midgicam camera used in sporting events, seen on the Letterman Show, and later in the Seoul Korea Olympics in 1988. He was awarded many national and local Emmy Awards for his work at NBC Television, both in the news and sports divisions, and later at News 12 Westchester where he was instrumental in getting News 12 Hudson Valley on the air. He is survived by his wife Nancy Schoenholz Reif of Sloatsburg, daughters Susan Reif of Tuxedo Park, Gina Reif Weinberger, sonin-law Carl, grandchildren Matthew and Carly Weinberger all of Chester, a brother Paul Reif and sister-in-law Toby of Arizona, and additional family in Westchester, Dutchess and Bergen Counties and Toronto, Canada. Services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 11 AM at the Hellman Memorial Chapel at 15 State Street in Spring Valley, NY. Burial will take place at Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery in Florida, NY. Shiva will be at the Reif residence in Sloatsburg Monday through Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
