Tappan - Bennet Silver, 88, longtime resident of Tappan, NY, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021 surrounded by his family. Devoted husband of 65 years to his beloved wife Marcia Silver. Loving father to Eilene Tewksbury (Joe), Scott Silver (Missy), and Todd Silver (Dina). Doting grandfather of 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Taylor, Jared, Emily, Danielle, and Samantha, and adored great-grandfather to Kennedy, and Hazel. Predeceased by his brother Marvin Silver, parents Dorothy and Irving Silver. Uncle to Ross Silver, Barry Silver, Randi Weinick, and Craig Aaron.
Born in the Bronx, Bennet attended Brooklyn Tech and New York University. Married the love of his life, Marcia, August 26, 1956. Proud US Army Veteran, having served overseas during the Korean Conflict and honorably discharged in 1955. Bennet was initiated into the National Society of Pershing Rifles in 1952. Member of 55 years of The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York, Pelham Lodge No.712 and Athelstane Lodge No.839. As a longtime member of the Theatrical Protective Union No.1, he spent his entire career with ABC TV as a lighting electrician for Eyewitness News, Good Morning America, and numerous other TV productions.
A devoted family man making countless sacrifices for the welfare of his wife, children and grandchildren. A lifelong tormented Mets and Jets fan, he also found time for himself to enjoy gardening, bowling, talking politics, and sitting at the poker table with his Wednesday Crew.
Funeral services for Mr. Silver will be held on Sunday, September 19th, 2021, 10:45 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY 10977
A quiet philanthropist, Mr. Silver proudly supported countless charitable organizations for Israeli and Jewish causes, veterans, and children in-need. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Silver's memory to Wounded Warrior Project
