Bronxville Village Attorney and Former Prosecutor Bohn C. Vergari, of Bronxville, NY and Winhall, VT died on June 30, 2002 from complications related to his nine month battle with leukemia. He was 52 years of age. Mr. Vergari was born July 18, 1949 in Fargo, North Dakota and grew up in Yonkers. He was the son of the Honorable Carl A. Vergari, the former District Attorney of Westchester County who held office for 26 years before retiring in 1993 and Genevieve Lindemann Vergari, a native of North Dakota who moved to New York in 1944. He married Jane E. D'Apice, his wife and companion of almost 40 years and they have two sons, Bohn, Jr., 26, of Manhattan, a Sales Manager at Morgan Stanley and Carl Andrew, 15, a student at Bronxville High School. Mr. Vergari graduated from Washington College in 1971 with a BA in American Studies and received his Juris Doctor with Departmental Honors from Fordham University School of Law in 1974. He was admitted to the New York Bar in the same year and to the United States Supreme Court in 1986. He began his career as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney's office where he served under the Honorable Robert Morgenthau for 8 years. In 1981, he joined the law firm of James Dempsey in White Plains before becoming a partner with Burchetta and Cerussi. He formed his own firm in 1985 and moved his practice from White Plains to Bronxville in 1999. His passion for the law led him to serve numerous legal based committees and organizations throughout the county, including the Inaugural Law Committee of Concordia College which established an undergraduate law program for the college commencing in Fall, 2002 and the Westchester County Grievance Committee. He was a founding member and past President of the Columbian Lawyers Association where, among other initiatives, he was instrumental in creating scholarships for students entering law school who were of Italian-American descent. Among his many civic and community involvements, Mr. Vergari has been the Village Attorney for Bronxville for the past 12 years, serving former Mayor Sheila Stein and current Mayor Nancy Hand. He was an active member of the Bronxville Community Fund and Chamber of Commerce. He served on the boards of the Westchester Hemophilia Society and Cooley's Anemia Foundation, where, along with his father, he was honored as "Man of the Year" in 1991. An avid fundraiser and service-oriented individual, he and his wife, Jane have been actively involved with various non-profit organizations including Family Services of Westchester, Family and Community Services and Forward Face, a Children's Charity. Mr. Vergari volunteered as a soccer coach for both sons and was honored as "Coach of the Year" by the Eastchester Youth Soccer League. He also coached TYA baseball and could always be found on the sidelines and upper bleachers of Bronxville High School and Williams College as an 'unofficial' football coach. He was a member of Siwanoy Country Club where he served on the Board of Governors, and as Vice President of the club, Chairman of the House Committee and Chairman of the Legal Committee. In addition to his wife, children and parents, he is survived by his sister, Jeanne Vergari Martinelli, his in-laws, the Honorable John and Jean D'Apice, his two uncles, John Vergari and Bohn C. Lindemann, nine first cousins, four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and five very special nieces and nephews - Jeanette and Michael Martinelli, Caitlyn and Marie D'Apice and Nicholas Thornton. Vergari Memorial Fund which will be used to benefit the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Services at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Fordham University School of Law.
