CHARLES BRODER Obituary

Chip Broder of Airmont, New York died suddenly of natural causes on Wednesday, February 5 three days after his 50th birthday. Chip was born in Roslyn, New York to Marvin Broder and the late Gloria Waldman. Chip is the loving son of Lois Broder. After marrying Celeste Hoppey in 1984, Chip and Celeste relocated to Rockland County. Chip was the Director of Sales at Focal Communication in Edison, New Jersey and a graduate of the University of Utah. Chip was very active in the Cherry Lane Elementary School community. He was a Hal Block Ramapo soccer coach, Boy Scout leader and a Ramapo Little League baseball coach for his son Ethan. Chip was also his daughter, Elexa's, Rockland County A.S.A T-ball division and Hal Block Ramapo soccer coach. Chip focused his entire life on his family. He and Celeste shared 18 wonderful years of marriage together. His compassion for people and his love for life are evident in the loving memories he has left for his family. The September 11th tragedy devastated Chip and Celeste, and they both volunteered many hours at Ground Zero. In addition to being an avid skier, he was an outstanding windsurfer and musician. In addition to his wife Celeste Hoppey-Broder and children Elexa and Ethan, Chip is survived by his father Marvin K. Broder, his adoring mother Lois Broder, brother, Michael, and sisters, Carley and Betsy Broder, stepsisters Peggy Wallach, Michaele Keyes, Diane McCann, Marianne Berson, stepbrothers Bobby, Peter and Jimmy Stern and their families. Chip leaves behind 12 nephews and 13 nieces. A memorial in the form of a Celebration of his Life will be held on Tuesday, February 11th at 10:30 AM at Temple Beth Torah, 330 North Highland Avenue (Route 9W), Upper Nyack, NY 10960, 845-358-2248, www.templebethtorah.org. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a scholarship fund to benefit Chip and Celeste's children. Checks made to Elexa Broder and/or Ethan Broder can be sent to Celeste Hoppey-Broder c/o Temple Beth Torah. Friends may call at the Hoppey-Broder home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings starting at 7PM.
