Charles "Ossie" Kapnick, 96, passed away peacefully of old age on March 1, 2017. He was born May 28, 1920 in Bronx, NY to the late Samuel and Bessie (Nadal) Kapnick. Charles attended James Monroe High School in New York. He served in the United States Army 17th Armored Infantry Battalion which was one of the most battle hardened units of the 12th Armored Division that played a significant role in blunting "Hitler's Last Eruption" and subsequently participated in the liberation of the last piece of French soil, the Colmar Pocket. His unit was then secretly attached to Patton's Third Army which became known as the "Mystery Division" that led the Third Army as a vanguard through Germany to the Rhine River. He was decorated with a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and other distinguished campaign medals including three Bronze Service Stars. Mr. Kapnick was a well-respected sales manager for 70 years and a top salesman for 5 consecutive years for White Westinghouse appliance goods. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Kapnick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth, his three sons Stewart and his wife Alison of New City, NY, Mark of Manhattan, Joel and his wife Lisa of Ardsley, NY and four grandchildren Jordan Leigh, Michael Taylor, Jake Matthew and Zachary Blake Kapnick. Ossie was predeceased by his brother Emanuel "Red" Kapnick. Funeral service to be held at WEINSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, March 2, at 11:30am, 1652 Central Park Avenue Yonkers, NY. Interment to follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. Memorial contributions in Mr. Kapnick's memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund or to the charity of your choice.
