Chauncey Dobson Obituary
Tarrytown - Chauncey Hector Dobson, MD (April 13, 1926- January 26, 2019)
Chauncey "Chuck" Dobson, longtime resident and orthopedic surgeon of Tarrytown, NY, beloved husband for 67 years to Joan ("Jacy") Dobson (who predeceased him by 10 months) died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday 1/26/19 at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family.
Chauncey was born in LA, California to Alfonso Carrillo and Gulie Dobson, an only son raised by his mother with his cousin Bebe. He attended the University of Arizona and then USC Medical School, where he met Jacy who was attending nursing school. He practiced close to 50 years at Phelps Memorial Hospital, still helping other surgeons when he was over 80. He served on the Board of the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps for over 30 years as their Medical Advisor/Director. He never wanted to retire because he enjoyed taking care of his many wonderful patients. Most people in town will point to the part he fixed with a big smile and praise for Dr. Dobson.
His hobbies included tennis, skiing, swimming, and flying. His love of flying began when he enlisted in the Naval Air Force during the end of WWII. Later, as a recreational flyer, he would take his family far and wide including summer beach and winter skiing vacations.
Chuck was a quiet and devoted family man. He is survived by his six children, Stephanie and (Michael) Trolle of Danbury, CT, Cynthia and (Edward) Tefft of Hamilton, MA, Paul and (Debra) Dobson of Rivervale, NJ, Valerie and (Michael) Frost of Norwalk, CT, Deirdre and (Ty) Carsto of Tarrytown, NY, Gary and (Carmen) Dobson of Spring Lake, NC, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Chuck was predeceased by his wife Jacy, daughter Marcy and two granddaughters, Jocelyn and Alyssa.
A Memorial Mass for both Chuck and Jacy is planned for Saturday March 30, 2019 at Transfiguration Church at 10:30 am followed by interment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. or Phelps Memorial Hospital.
