Daniel Doyle Obituary

Doyle, Daniel T.

Daniel (Danny) Doyle, formerly of Thornwood NY, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2014 at the Laurelwood Rehabilitation Center in Ridgefield CT. He was born January 26, 1930 in NYC, son of Daniel and Mae Doyle, the eldest of two children. His brother Donald predeceased him.

He attended Pleasantville High School, class of 1948 and thereafter served in the Navy for 4 years during the Korean War aboard the submarine USS Argonaut. After the Navy he joined the White Plains Fire Department where he served the city for more than 25 years. He had a passion for being a firefighter and it is quite ironic he passed away on 9/11 when so many other firefighters are remembered.

In 1956, Danny married Mary Cosgrove of Monaghan Ireland and they had four children. He is survived by Dan Doyle and his wife Ginny of New Fairfield, CT, Patty Wolstein and her husband Lewis of White Plains, NY, Artie Doyle and his wife Patti of Roseville, NC, Brian Doyle of NYC and ten grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY on Sunday, September 14th between the hours of 4:00 - 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne NY on Monday, September 15th at 10:00 AM followed by a burial service at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in the Doyle Family's name may be made to the Rosary Hill Home - Hawthorne, NY or St. Christopher's Inn - Garrison, NY.

To Dan (Ginny), Patty (Lewis), Artie (Patti), Brian, and all of Danny's family and friends: On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), please accept our sincere condolences. May God bring to your hearts, peace, comfort, and healing. We are grateful for Danny's service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service on the USS Argonaut SS-475 during the Korea War period. To our “Brother of the Phin” … “Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."

So, heavenly Father add his name to the roll
Of our departed shipmates still on patrol.
Let them know that we who survive
Will always keep their memories alive.

Bless those who serve beneath the deep,
Through lonely hours their vigils keep.
May peace their mission ever be!
Protect each one, we ask of Thee.

Bless those at home who wait and pray
For their return by night and day.
