DOROTHY LULEICH Obituary

Dorothy H. Luleich, 90, of Shell Point Village, Fort Myers, died after a short illness on August 21, 1999. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 14, 1909, the daughter of the late James and Mary Ellen Hooper. For most of her life she lived in Nyack, where she married Ernest Luleich. Shortly after retiring from the family business in 1972 she moved to Winter Park. After the death of her husband in 1984, she moved to Fort Myers. Shortly after her marriage, Dorothy began managing Luleich's Bakery, a landmark Nyack business. In addition to the Nyack store, she also managed a branch of the business in Haverstraw, during the period of 1936 to 1946. She and her husband, who was a master baker, ran the business from the days when bakery goods were delivered to customers by horse-drawn cart, until its closing in 1972. They specialized in providing high quality, German-style baked goods - a niche that many area residents say has never been replaced. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Christian Missionary Alliance and was a member of the Woman's Missionary Prayer Fellowship. During her years as owner and manager of the bakery, she employed many students of Nyack College which is an affiliate of the CMA. She is survived by three granddaughters; Diane Lynch of Duxbury, VT, Linda Cavanaugh of Mont Vernon, NH and Gretchen Gorflne of Maitland, FL; five great- grandchildren and nieces and nephew. Interment will be on Friday, September 3, 1999 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to Christian Missionary Alliance, Great Commission Fund in memory of Dorothy Luleich, Shell Point Village Church, 15000 Shell Point Blvd, Fort Myers, Florida 33908. Arrangements are being handled by Baldwin-Fairchild Cemeteries and Funeral Homes, 994 E. Altamonte Dr., Altamonte Springs, FL 32701.
