YOUNGSTROM, ELIZABETH DAGMARElizabeth Dagmar Youngstrom died peacefully of natural causes on January 20, 2005, at the King Street Nursing Home in Rye Brook, at the age of 98. Born in the Yukon Territory, she became a naturalized citizen in 1943 and was a White Plains resident, living in the same house, since her teenage years. Known as "Betty" to her many longtime friends, she went to work after high school for Charles Scribner's Sons in New York City, where she was a personal assistant to Mr. Scribner and came to know such authors as Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Wolfe, etc. She remained with Scribner until her retirement. Miss Youngstrom was active in the White Plains Garden Club, where she won First Prize for an oriental flower arrangement, the Garden Section of the Womans Club of White Plains, Inc., and was proud of her own garden at home. She also loved traveling. Elizabeth Youngstrom is survived by her nieces and nephews in Washington State. Visiting hours will be at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home on Monday, January 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 25 at 10 am and interment will be at White Plains Rural Cemetery.
