Yonkers - On January 12, George John Vlahos passed away peacefully in his sleep just shy of his 92nd birthday. He followed his beloved wife Amy Mallas Vlahos who passed last May.

George is survived by his three children: John and his wife Nancy Ash, Terri McCartney and her husband Fred Wilms, and Len and his wife Kristen Gilligan. His seven grandchildren, Lauren, Zach, Patrick, Tommy, Alexander, Charlie and Luke brought him constant joy. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Patrick McCartney.

George was born in Yonkers, New York on January 21, 1926 to Greek immigrants. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the age of 17, but the war ended before he saw active duty. He went on to earn a BS in Chemistry at Manhattan College and a Masters in Education from Columbia University. He met Amy and they were married in 1954, remaining together for 62 years. George was a personnel manager for Refined Sugars in Yonkers for more than twenty five years. In his sixties he began a second career as a math and science teacher in the Yonkers public schools.

George loved the beach and surf fishing, spending many happy family vacations on Long Beach Island, NJ. He and Amy enjoyed traveling, taking many excursions after retirement.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 17th from 3pm to 7pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave, in Stamford, CT. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 18th at 10am at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford Street, in Stamford. The interment will immediately follow the service at Greenwood Union Cemetery, 215 North St., in Rye, NY.
