Rev. GERARD MAJELLA GAFFNEY C.F.C.

Rev. Brother Gerard Majella Gaffney C.F.C. passed away on March 31, 2009. Brother Gaf fney was born on June 3, 1935 in New York, the son of Patrick and Katherine White Gaf fney. He is a graduate of Sacred Heart Elemen tary, Power Memorial, Iona College, where he graduated with a BA in French, St. John's Uni versity, where he re ceived his MA in Theol ogy, and Seton Hall University, where he re ceived his MA in Guidance. Brother Gaf fney entered the congre gation on September 13, 1950 and took his final vows on June 27, 1961. His ministry took him too many positions in cluding President of Iona Prep from 20032005 as well as St. Jo seph's Juniorate, Santa Maria Novitiate, St. Ga briel's Scholastic, Ed mund Rice Hall, St. Pat rick's Hall School in Ca nada, Principal of Ber gen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ, Msgr. Farrell High School and Iona Prep from 1980 to present. Brother Gaffney is sur vived by his brothers: Edward and Patrick Gaffney. He was prede ceased by his parents and one sister, Grace Lazewick. A wake will be held at the Iona Prep Chapel at 255 Wilmont Rd., New Rochelle, NY 10804, on Friday April 3, from 2 PM to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Bu rial will be held at Holy Family Church, May flower Ave., New Ro chelle, NY on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Internment to follow at Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park, NY.
