In a long career of social service, she served on the boards of Children's Village, Dobbs Ferry; CLUSTER in Yonkers where she negotiated the founding of the Mediation Center of Westchester; The Maxwell Institute, Bronxville; Family Service of Westchester; the National Council on Alcoholism/Westchester and other organizations. She was constantly active as a volunteer, and sometimes as a paid employee in these and other organizations in Westchester, NYC and elsewhere. She was particularly devoted to child development, conflict resolution, and coping with alcoholism and drug abuse. On June 6th last she received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester and the County Board of Legistators paid tribute to her, declaring the day to be "Dr. Jacqueline Y. Sutton Day" in Westchester. She also received on that day a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions to our community from Congresswoman Nita Lowey. Jacqueline Sutton (Nee Young) was born in Detroit, grew up in Cleveland where she graduated from Western Reserve University in 1945 with honors and membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She won a fellowship for graduate study at Radcliff and completed her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Harvard in 1952. In addition to her work with social service organizations, she has been the author of scientific papers and research reports, and served as Deputy Director of the Rockefeller Foundation Conference and Study Center, Bellagio, Italy, 1990-1992. She was a talented artist and amateur flutist, and was much appreciated for her unfailing sense and humor. Dr. Sutton is survived by her husband of 54 years, Francis X. Sutton of Dobbs Ferry; four children, Peter of Hartford, CT, Sean of South Hadley, MA, Philip of Redondo Beach, CA, and Elizabeth Sutton-Stroll of Middlebury, VT, and five grandchildren.
