James E. Flament, Sr., of Conway, SC, a retired Lieutenant with the Suffern Police Department and a former Sloatsburg resident, died Saturday, March 12th at Conway Hospital, Conway, SC. He was 60. Born June 2, 1944 in the Bronx, Jim was the son of the late Louis A. and the late Catherine (Trainor) Flament of Southbury, CT; formerly Malverne, NY. Jim married Janice E. Izzo, Izzo of Sloatsburg, on April 20,1968 at Saint Joan of Arc Church. Janice died in 1997. Originally from Malverne, NY, Jim was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy in Rhode Island. Jim earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Rockland Community College in 1974. Jim proudly served his country from 1966-1969 as an AP in the Air Force K-9 unit, where he was stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. Jim joined the Suffern Police Department in July of 1970, where he was a Patrolman, attained Sergeant October 1979 and then Lieutenant on March 12, 1984. He also served as interim Chief from June of 1989 until August of 1990. He retired in 1996. He was a member of the Maxwell De Baun American Legion Post 859 in Suffern and a Member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Murrels Inlet, SC. He was a member of the Rockland County Police Chief's Association and the New York State Association of Chief's of Police. Jim is survived by his only child, a loving son, James E. Flament, Jr. of Nyack, and his wife Allison of Faifield, CT. James' dear fiance, Helen Delargy, at home in Conway, SC, his dear sister Madeline Sieferman and her husband George, his loving brother Louis Flament, all of Georgia, his sister-in-law Mariann Izzo Cheney and her husband Ralph of Monticello, his brother-in-law, Joseph Izzo and mother-in-law Mary E. Izzo, both of Sloatsburg. Jim is also survived by his many nephews and nieces, and his faithful pal his dog, Max. Jim will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends who are heartbroken at his untimely passing. "We will miss him terribly." The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, March 18th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, Route 59 in Suffern. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 19th at 10 am at St. Joan of Arc Church, Eagle Valley Road, in Sloatsburg, with the interment to follow in Maryrest Cemetary, Mahwah, NJ.
