James McNicholas Obituary

McNicholas, James

James McNicholas, a much loved father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend passed away at peace on April 30 with his daughters by his side. Jim was born in the Bronx on January 16, 1945 to Michael and Mary (Egan) McNicholas. He attended Power Memorial Academy and Iona College. In 1968 he married Elaine Smith and in 1970 moved to his home in Garnerville where he raised his family and spent 43 wonderful years, making treasured memories with wonderful family and friends. For his family and his friends, Jim would do anything. Despite his quiet nature, Jim worked happily and diligently in sales for Jones Dairy Farm and Omni Foods until his retirement in 2010. Jim was very involved through the years at Saint Gregory Barbarigo Parish as a parishioner and in many areas of parish life including the Holy Name Society, Parish Council, Bingo and CYO basketball. He never hesitated to give of himself and enjoyed every opportunity he had to be involved at Saint Gregory's. Jim is survived by his loving daughters, Kristen Glynn and her husband Mike and Meghan Scholl and her husband Rich and his beloved grandchildren, Kiera, Gavin, Logan, Riley, Catherine James (Cate) and Aiden James. He was predeceased by his cherished wife Elaine and his best friend, his son, Jimmy. Jim will be remembered with love by all who knew him, dear family members and friends. Family and friends will be received at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass celebrating Jim's life will take place on Tuesday at Saint Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City.

Kristen and Meghan:
So sorry to hear about your Dad. I know how much He loved His family. He was a great friend.
You both should be very proud of the great care and love you provided him with.
God bless You and your families.

Jim and his family were the kind of neighbors every home owner could wish for. Family, church and compassion for others was his guiding principles in life. And despite a far too early loss of his wife, Elaine, and son, James, he carried on with the loving help of daughters,Kristen and Megan. RIP
P.S. Jim, miss your 5.00a.m. report of deer count feasting on my lawn when on your way to work. Jim/Mary Laverty
