Jean H. Meshirer, 84, of Monsey, NY passed away after a long illness on October 31, 2011. A long time resident of Monsey, NY, he was born on March 6, 1927 to Harry Bernard Meshirer and Frances Julia Meshirer, nee Weiser in Queens, NY. The family lived in College Point before relocating to Monsey. Jean attended Spring Valley High School where as an active student athlete lettered in baseball. His education was interrupted as Jean answered the call of WWII serving as a military policeman in the U.S. Army. He was a qualified marksman before being honorably discharged in 1946. Jean finished his education and worked locally. He was wed on April 22, 1951 to Sophie Kuplinski of Ramapo in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mahwah. Jean retired from Chrysler in Orangeburg, New York in 1989 and actively enjoyed his family and pastimes. He is survived by his loving spouse of 60 years of marriage, Sophie Meshirer, as well as their four children, Susan Sagliano, Harry Meshirer, Paul Meshirer and Nancy Kearns. Blessed with grandchildren, Sara Siano, William N. Sagliano Jr., Andrew Kearns, Connor Kearns, Eric Meshirer and Jenna Meshirer. His last days were enriched by the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Giovanni Siano III. Jean was a lifelong sportsman always ready to spend time mentoring and bonding with his extended family in outdoor pursuits. As a devoted family man and husband, he has left a rich experience of love and devotion. Friends may call Wednesday at Scarr Funeral Home in Suffern, NY on November 2, 2011 from 3pm-5pm and 7pm- 9pm. Jean's Mass will held Thursday at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern. Burial will follow at the the F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead Church in Suffern. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
