Joan Harnedy Obituary
Joan Catherine Harnedy died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 10, 2017. She graduated from The Academy of Holy Angels in Fort Lee, N.J. She received a B.A. in Psychology from The College of New Rochelle, where she was was inducted into the National Honor Society. Joan was employed by American Universities on Madison Avenue and later worked at IBM, until she left the workforce to raise her children. On December 29, 1962 she married Edmund Richard Harnedy. They shared a true love story, together for 39 years. Joan embodied generosity and an understated grace and elegance.
Her children and grandchildren were the focal point of her life. She stimulated their intellectual curiosity and appreciation for athletics right from the start. Joan instilled in them the values of faith, family and celebrating achievements, no matter how large or small. Joan enjoyed spending time gardening, swimming and reading.
Predeceased by her husband and brothers, Robert, John, and sister Elaine. She is survived by her children Richard (Lynn), Julia (Raymond), grandsons Eddie, James, Liam, sister Marion Robey and sister in law Kiki Holland.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10am at Holy Name Of Jesus Church in Valhalla. Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Wish I had known sooner that Mrs. Harnedy left us. I grew up in the neighborhood with her children and loved hanging out in their home. She was a kind and considerate person and a wonderful host, treating guests with the utmost of hospitality. To Julie and Richard, on behalf of the Kirley family, we will all miss your mom very much. God bless.
