Joan Yarmy Obituary
Joan T. Yarmy (Sullivan), a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on July 4, 2017. She was 74.
Joan was born on October 21, 1942 in the Bronx to the late William and Sophie (Mechinko) Wolfe.
She was a teacher for the NYC Board of Education for over 25 years.
She is survived by her husband Gerald M. Sullivan whom she married on March 13, 1998; her 2 sons Richard Yarmy and John Yarmy and his wife Mary Ashton; her granddaughter Emmy; her daughter-in-law Annie Yarmy and her brother Richard Wolfe and his wife Susan. She was predeceased by his brother Billy Wolfe.
Visiting will be Friday 4-8pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle where a funeral service will held on Friday evening at 7pm. Interment will be private.

Not certain if anyone actually reads this but, in case anyone - particularly Richard, John, or Gerald - please know I well remember Joan and cannot forget her. Joan - then, Mrs. Yarmy - was my teacher at P.S. 72 and then I.S. 192 in the Throgs Neck section of he Bronx. Years later, after college, when I began my career as a teacher, I found Joan working at the school where I started - P.S. 107 in Soundview. We became close friends and I valued knowing Joan.
I remember that she gifted me an original Mac computer that either Richard or John had outgrown. It was my first. 5.25 floppy disc and all! Joan also knew my mother who was active in the PTA when I was in elementary school. I recall many End Term parties where Joan's presence was a joy to the staff. And, finally, I recall visiting Joan when she was staying at the home in New Rochelle.
I am told that my maternal grandfather used to say that 'No one ever dies so long as someone remembers them.' Well, I'll never forget Joan.

Joan was one of my teachers in elementary school and I"m happy to say became one of my friends when I began teaching. She will be sorely missed.
