JOHN ANDREASSI Obituary

John Lawrence Andreassi, , Ph.D., Professor of Psychology. Born in N.Y.C. October 23, 1934 to Croce and Agnes Andreassi. John is survived by wife of 39 years, Gina Andreassi, children, John Andreassi II, Ph.D., Jeanine Andreassi, Ph.D., and Cristina Andreassi, Ph.D, granddaughter, Rachel, and siblings George, Eugene and Matilda. He graduated from City College of New York, B.A. (1956), Fordham University, M.A. (1959), and Case Western Reserve, Ph.D. (1964). Work history includes Director of the Behavioral Sciences Laboratory at the U.S. Navy, 1964-1967, Associate Psychology Professor at NYU, 1967-1973, and Professor of Psychology, CUNY Baruch College, 1973-2008, where he was awarded Distinguished Faculty scholar. As a Psychologist, he practiced stress management and biofeedback. John authored a seminal textbook, Psychophysiology: Human Behavior and Physiological Response first published in 1980 with the 5th edition published in 2007. He was a co-founding fellow of the Industrial Organization of Psychophysiology, member of the board of governors, former Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Psychophysiology (1988-2007) and recipient of the "Exceptional Service to I.O.P. / UN Award" upon unanimous decision in January 2008. He authored over 70 journal articles throughout his career. Visitation will be Tuesday 3-7pm. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11am at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Scarsdale, NY.
