John 'Jack' James Ferguson

"In My Own Words"

I was born John Ferguson to Margaret Veronica Powers and John Patrick Ferguson. I was born and raised at 3044 Albany Crescent in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx and was delivered by Dr. Henry J. Barrow. I loved my sister Catherine Ferguson Winter who is now deceased. I took the middle name of James for my confirmation and I attended St. John's Grammar School in Kingsbridge. I also attended Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan. I met the love of my life, Esther Ann Mininni at Norcross Greeting Cards in the Bronx. We were married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in the Bronx and she bore us three lovely children, Peggy, Jack and Janet. They were the loves of our lives and all three married wonderful partners, Pete, Margaret and Mike. Between the three children, they gave us eight grandchildren, and the story doesn't end there….now we have nine great grandchildren!!! I proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. I worked for 22 years at R. Hoe and Company in the South Bronx until 1970 when they went into bankruptcy. Then I worked at the Catholic Guardian Society (a branch of the Archdiocese of New York) where I became the Chief Paymaster for C.G.S. They always treated me wonderful but in turn I always treated them wonderful. I retired in June of 1999.

As I said before, I have eight beautiful grandchildren: Brian, Danielle, Matthew, Lauren, Barbara, Meghan, Tara and Brianne. What a team that is!!!! And the great grandchildren: Gabriella, Adelyn, Sean, Dylan, Joseph, Liam, Milo, Samantha and Patrick. My wife Esther died January 24, 2008 after 57 years of marriage. I led a wonderful life and I am so, so proud of my whole family and I love them very much. I tried to be a good Dad all my life and I think I succeeded the way they are treating me now!

I have wanted to write this for a long time and to share with everyone when I passed. I hope to bring wonderful memories to people in my life. Esther and I spent our golden years at Dowling Gardens in Sparkill, New York where we made many wonderful friends and memories.

P.S. I was the manager of Williams Little League Team for 23 years in the Kingsbridge Little League!!! I told my son Jack to remind all that I won six little league championships during this tenure.

P.P.S. I consider myself the greatest Yankee fan that ever lived!!!!

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 10am, at the Sacred Heart Chapel in Sparkill with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet. Visiting hours will be Friday, 2-4 and 6-9pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Memorial contributions in Jack's memory may be made to Dowling Gardens, 190 Kings Highway, Sparkill, NY 10976.
