JOHN MAURITZ Obituary

John D. Mauritz of Eastchester, died on January 8, 2006 at the New York University Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. Mauritz was the owner of Johnnie's Pelham Road Service Station in New Rochelle since 1943. He was born on October 4, 1917 in Cleveland, OH and was the son of Albert and Julia Mauritz. Johnnie married Grace Valentine on November 22, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, NY. His beloved wife died on April 11, 1990. Mr. Mauritz was a member of the Gas Retailers Association, Past President of the New Rochelle Lions Club, past Chairman of the Fresh Air Fund of New Rochelle, and the Huguenot Lodge # 46 Masonic Order of New Rochelle. John leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son John Mauritz and his wife Cathy of Mystic, CT and daughters Diane Shumway and her husband John Dack of Fishkill, NY and Betsy McKenna of Bronxville, NY. In addition he was the loving grandfather of Christopher Mauritz and his wife Mary, Michelle Gannon and her husband Patrick, Jennifer Marion and her husband Steven, John Shumway, Justin Shumway and Sarah Shumway. His greatgrandchildren Dana and Alex Mauritz and Grace Marion also survive him. His brothers Victor, Albert and Frank predeceased him. The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. Monday 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Service at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Eastchester, on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Kensico Cemetery.
