Joseph Citarella Obituary

Citarella, Joseph A.

Joseph A. Citarella of Ossining and New York City died on October 2, 2015. Citarella was born on June 13, 1929 to the late Michael and Marie (nee Monturo) Citarella in Manhattan.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1951-1953 during The Korean Conflict. He was a costume designer for the New York City Opera and its international touring companies for over 25 years. As Director of Wardrobe in 1997, he was honored for contributions to the EMMY winning program Puccini's "La Boheme" with the New York City Opera Live at Lincoln Center on PBS under the Artistic Director Beverly Sills.

Citarella taught costume design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He curated the exhibition, "Dressing for a Victorian Day", for the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers in 2000. He volunteered with God's Love We Deliver in White Plains.

He lived in Tarrytown and Briarcliff. All who knew him enjoyed his quick wit and good sense of humor.

Private services will be held.
