JOSEPH CUMMINGS Obituary

Joseph P. Cummings ,Jr., a Stamford resident and resident of North Palm Beach, Florida, Lost Tree Village and formerly of Greenwich, passed away at Bellevue Hospital Center on Saturday, December 16, 2000 due to heart failure. He was 81. Born in Norwich, CT on July 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Anne C. Maher Cummings, Sr. Mr. Cummings was a graduate and former trustee of the University of Notre Dame. He was an officer in the United States Navy during WWII. He was Deputy Senior Partner of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co., predecessor firm to KPMG in New York City. In addition, he was the Chairman of the AICPA, Deputy Chairman of the APB as well as the first Chairman of the IAPB. He was a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs. He was also a member and avid golfer of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York and the Lost Tree Country Club in North Palm Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Miriam (Mimi) I. Lutz Cummings of Stamford, CT and North Palm Beach, FL, his daughters Patricia McCarthy of Boca Raton, FL, Maureen Brown of Port Chester, NY; his two sons, Richard K. Cummings of Norwalk, CT and Kurt P. Cummings of Murrells Inlet, SC; his sister, Rosalie Baker of Norwich, CT and 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Amanda E. Cummings, in 1978. Calling hours will be held at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son FH, 31 Arch Street,Greenwich, Monday, December 18, 2000 from 6 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Michael Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich, CT on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich, CT. Contributions can be made in his memory to the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556.
