JOSEPH GIRVEN Obituary

Joseph F. Girven of Mahopac, NY died Sunday September 17, 2006 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 72. He was born in the Bronx on February 11, 1934, the son of Michael and Catherine McCabe Girven. Joe earned his undergraduate degree in history from Iona College in New Rochelle and his Masters Degree in educational administration from Fordham University. He was an Administrator in the Mahopac School District from 1967 to 1996. He served on the Carmel Zoning Board of Appeals and was a member of the Board of Advisory Trustees of Putnam Hospital Center. He was a past president of the Lake Mahopac Rotary Club and a parishioner of St. John The Evangelist Church. Joe is a life member and past president of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an honorary member of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department. Joe currently serves as Chairman of the Putnam County Industrial Development Agency and is secretary-treasurer of the Putnam County Economic Development Corporation. On July 17, 1993, he married Jacqueline Wekerle who lovingly cared for Joe during his illness. In addition to his wife of Mahopac, he is survived by his step-children, Amy and Brent Lagan, Jennifer and Sean Collins and Peter and Georgette Wekerle, his children, Joseph, Jennifer and Thomas Ferrentini, and Jackie and Michael Hickey, his brothers, Charles and Thomas and his grandchildren, Jordan, Devan, Brianna, Jack, Ryan, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Bridget, Maeve and Liam and many nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held today (Tuesday) and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, Mahopac with interment to follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery, Mahopac Falls. JOSEPH J.
