Kopac, Joseph A.

Joseph A. Kopac, 83, of Blauvelt, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2015 at the Tolstoy Foundation Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Valley Cottage. Joseph, a lifelong resident of Rockland County, was born in Piermont on September 21, 1931 to Peter and Jozefina Kopac. He was a truck driver for over 20 years and was employed by the Teamster Union Local No. 445 in Stony Point. During the Korean War, Joseph served in the US Army and was honorably discharged.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret ('Peggy'); his daughters, Alexandra Langdon-Kaufman (Alan) of Henderson, NC and Laura Kopac of New City; his grandchildren, Joshua Langdon (Jessica) of Flagstaff, AZ and Matthew Langdon (Jennifer) of Arden, NC; his great- grandchildren, Levi Langdon of Arden, NC and Cody Anne Langdon of Flagstaff, AZ; his sister, Florence D'Auria (Joseph) of Sparkill; his brother George Kopac (Gertrude) of Sparkill; his son-in-law, Edward Langdon (Tracy) of Max Meadow, VA; and his sister-in-laws, Janet Kopac (William) of Blauvelt and Donna Hoffman (Robert) of Pearl River. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Peter D'Auria (Dinorah) and his lifelong friend David Ebersman.

Joseph was predeceased his brothers, John, Peter, Steven, William and Thomas and his sisters, Pauline Dizzine, Ann Ventriglia and Jeanne Culetto.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Roy Eriksen and the staff at Nyack Hospital and Tolstoy Foundation Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their loving and compassionate care of Joseph.

He was the toughest man we ever knew. He defined "father." He was both all guts, and all heart.

A Memorial Mass will be said Saturday, June 20th, 10am, at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt followed by military honors at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. In lieu of flowers, contributions to ARC Foundation of Rockland, 25 Hemlock Drive, Congers, NY 10920 would be greatly appreciated.
