Majella Berg

Sr. Majella Berg, RSHM died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, April 5, 2004. She was 87 and a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 68 years. She taught at Marymount School, NYC and was a registrar at Marymount Colleges in Manhattan, Arlington, VA and Tarrytown. She was named president of the Marymount College, Arlington of Virginia (later Marymount University) in Arlington in 1960, a position she held until 1993. Under her leadership, Marymount grew from a two-year women's college into a comprehensive, coeducational university. AT the time of her death, Sr. Majella was President Emerita of Marymount University. She had recently moved to the Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. Sr. Marjella is survived by two sisters: Joan Therese Berg Cavanaugh of Islip, NY and Dorothy Berg Faregello of Spring Hill, TN. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, April 14, 10:00 am, Cathedral of St. Thomas More, Arlington. Burial Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, VA. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to the Sr. Majella Berg, RSHM, Scholarship Fund at Marymount University, Arlington, VA.
