Michael Longuil Obituary
Michael Longuil of Pearl River passed away early Wednesday after a valiant battle to recover from a severe head injury back in June. Born in Northvale, NJ, Mike was raised in Nyack, NY, where he graduated from Nyack High School in 1950 and later returned to teach and coach in Nyack for over 30 years.
Mike moved on to Bowling Green University where he graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Arts in 1956 (his education was interrupted with a two year stint in the Army during the Korean War). An excellent athlete in high school (wrestling, football, & track), he was outstanding in wrestling at Bowling Green where he was Mid-American conference champion 3 times and Most Outstanding Wrestler at the conference championships his senior year.
Mike had a great career at Nyack HS as a teacher, an administrator, and as a coach of football, wrestling, and track. Also, he found time to earn a Master's Degree and a CAS Degree in Educational Administration. He refereed high school and college wrestling at all levels for over 40 years. Mike was an active member of the Elks, and was serving as the Commander of the American Legion Post in Nyack at the time of his death. In 2009, he was inducted into the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame.
Michael was predeceased by his mother, Angeline (Lodico) Longuil Blake, his father, David A. Longuil, his sister, Genevieve (Longuil) Nunez Dickson, and his brother, Robert Charles Longuil. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Pohley) Longuil, a daughter, Doreen Longuil, a stepson, Kenneth Barrish, and a brother, Dr. John Longuil (Carolynn) of Marcellus. Also, Mike has several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A Funeral Service and American Legion Service will be held at Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc., Nyack, on Monday, October 8th at 11am. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, October 7th, from 4pm to 7pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

As I remember and celebrate this wonderful human being I am left with knowing Mike cared about a lot of things. He cared about helping people. He applied himself and was generous in so many ways. Mike was a kind and dependable. I appreciated his years of concern and effort as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ray Bergman Chapter of Trout Unlimited. I remember Michael, when we had a run-off to see who would run a leg on the relay team. I couldn't get my long legs in gear and he nipped me at the tape. He was a fiery competitor, and let me know it. I learned a lesson from his very competitive demeanor; to give my all in anything I attempted to do. That approach led me to winning the Country 100 dash championship in 1952. My prayers go out to Michael's family. A man that gave so much back to his school and community will be sorely missed.
