Michael Murphy Obituary

Major Michael L. Murphy (USMC) of Scotts Hill, NC died Monday, December 11, 2000 as the result of a training mishap aboard an MV-22B Osprey (tiltrotor). He was born in Queens, NY on March 3, 1962, the son of John and Ann Lark Murphy of Rockland County, NY. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Hampstead, NC. He was a 15 year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was currently assigned to VMMT-204 as an MV-22B Osprey Pilot in Jacksonville, NC. He was last assigned to HMX-1 as a Presidential Pilot. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Patricia Kennedy Murphy; son, Michael; and daughter, Grace; brother, John Murphy; sister, Patricia Urban. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 am Friday, December 22, 2000 at Quantico Memorial Chapel, Quantico, VA. Graveside services will be at 1 pm Friday, December 22, 2000 in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Major Michael L. Murphy Memorial Fund, c/o Marine Federal Credit Union, P.O.
