Michael Scepanski Obituary

Scepanski, Michael

Michael James Scepanski passed away on July 20 on Long Island. He was 93 years old. Mike was born on September 19, 1919 to Ludwig and Anna Szczepanski. He was one of seven children; two survive him, sisters Stella Petro and Sophie Kapral. Mike was the beloved companion of Sybil Stirrat of Scotland. He was the proud and much loved father of Jordan (Lea) Scepanski of Chapel Hill, Judy (Henry) Elias of Port Jefferson, and Penny Feldman of NYC. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren Courtney (Ken)Dolan, Chris (Maura)Elias, Katharine (Jivin)Seward, Jordan and Jennifer Scepanski and Benjamin Feldman. He was the adored great dziadziu of Abigail and Tighe Dolan, Jaylen and Kaleb Seward and Campbell, Henry and Katharine Elias. His children's mother, Margaret, preceded him death. Mike was a proud veteran of WWII having served aboard the USS Texas in the Pacific Theatre. His ship participated in major battles and he witnessed the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. He lived most of his life in Yonkers and was employed by Otis Elevator. Mike located to Danbury after his retirement where he lived and enjoyed an active life traveling around the world, playing volleyball and swimming into his nineties. He was the core of his family and his kindness, intelligence, compassion and zest for life are his legacy to all of us. We were blessed to have him as our Dad and Grandfather. There was no service, as Mike who was always forward leaning made a lasting contribution to medical education and research, and thus to the service of humanity by donating his body to Stony Brook Medical School. Contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project would be appreciated.

I was sorry to her about Mike. I was recently thinking of him and Sybil so I googled his name and found this obituary.
I have fond memory's of Mike when I was a child. He was like a Great Uncle to me. Mike and Sybil were good friends of my Grandmother, Mary Kuszmink. I can remember back in the 70's and 80's Mary, Paul, Mike and Sybil would often get together at my Grandmothers house in the Poconos. They alway seemed to be having some good times. Mike and Paul were both WWII vets and would have some interesting story's.
Mike was always a lot of fun and a great guy to be around. He had a lot of energy and was always greeted you with a joke and a smile.
I will never forget him. He was truly one of great one's.
I remember him speaking of Penny and reminding me that we were at Jones beach together when when I was very young.
My condolences to his family. I hope Sybil is well.
Sincerely,
Robbie Byrnes
