MILDRED DWORKIN Obituary
Mildred R. Dworkin, surrounded by her beloved family, peacefully left them on December 10, 2008 to join the love of her life, her partner and husband of 52 1/2 years, Abe. Millie was born to Anna and Max Rosen on June 20, 1921 in the Bronx. She graduated from Hebrew High School, Evander Childs High School, and secretarial college. She will be missed for eternity by her devoted children Bob and Bernice Dworkin, Joyce Trubitz, and Stan and Cathie Dworkin. She was the much treasured grandmother of Ann Beth and Ilan Nifco, Michelle Trubitz, David and Beth Dworkin, Matthew and Jessica Dworkin, Daniel Dworkin and Gabrielle Dworkin, the adored 'GG' to Alexandra, Samuel and Sydney, cherished sister of Ruth Flanz. After 27 years, Millie retired as Executive Secretary to the Registrar of Yeshiva University Cardozo Law School and joined and became an active member of many clubs and organizations. She was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Active Seniors, Forever Young Seniors, Montebello Commons Seniors, Wesley Hills Seniors, RCC Seniors, Golden Age Group and Jewish War Veterans. She volunteered at Montrose Veterans Hospital, at Nyack Hospital for over 20 years, and at the US Military Academy at West Point when the new cadets and their families arrived. Millie was a member of Monsey Jewish Center (now Shaarey Israel). While living in the Bronx, she was honored at Gracie Mansion for raising more money for cancer patients and their families than anyone else in New York City. She established a community center in the Sedgwick Projects, was a recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award from the White House, the Certificate of Honor from the Town of Ramapo, awards from RSVP, "Angel" Certificate of Appreciation from NCJW, Certificate of Merit from the NY State Senate for outstanding volunteer service and was honored as Woman of the Year by the United Jewish Community and the Sisterhood of Monsey Jewish Center. Millie was called "the energizer bunny", as she never stopped running, exploring, learning and doing for others in spite of missing "My Abe" every day. Millie enjoyed her life, her friends and above all, her family, who knows that Mom and Dad are now together once more, not 'Dancing with the Stars' but dancing in the stars. The funeral will be at 1 PM on Thursday at Gates of Zion Cemetery, Monsey, NY. Memorial Donations may be made to a special fund being established at Congregation Shaarey Israel, 972 Chestnut Ridge Road, Chestnut Ridge, NY 10977. Shiva will be observed at the Dworkin residence in Spring Valley through Wednesday morning, December 17, 2008. HELLMAN MEMORIAL CHAPELS 15 State Street Spring Valley, NY 10977 (845) 356-8600
