Patrick Brown Obituary

Brown, Patrick J.

Patrick J. Brown, of Mohegan Lake, devoted husband, loving father of 8, and dapper grandfather of 17, passed away on March 7, 2013. He was 88. Patrick was born on March 17, 1924 in the Bronx, to Michael and Honora (Murray) Brown, both from county Mayo, Ireland. He was graduated from LaSalle Academy, and served as a Lieutenant Tank Commander in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he was graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in Biology (where he and his cohorts stole a Hartford, CT Irish setter statue, and displayed it prominently at several Manhattan College locations). He earned his Master's degree in Biology from Columbia University. He married Claire Hanrahan, the love of his life, on February 18, 1950, and they were blessed with eight children, around whom their world revolved. For 35 years he was employed by Wyeth Laboratories as a District Sales Manager, until he retired in 1986, after initially teaching High School Biology. Pat and Claire moved to Chappaqua in 1956. Pat served as Town Councilman and Police Commissioner in the town of New Castle, president of the New Castle Dad's Club, coached the Princeton Tigers in the New Castle Ivy League football program, and was voted Father of the Year in 1962. He is survived by his children, Patrick, Barbara O'Neill, Stephen, Colette Goodman, Claudia Schaus, and Laura Collins, and his 17 grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Jeff, Brian, Douglas, Erin, Kyle, Greg, Kaitlyn, Paige, Christopher, Robert, Claire, Sean, Connor, Stephen, and Liam. He was predeceased by his wife, Claire, his children, Michael and Christine, his brothers, John and Thomas, his sister, Theresa, and his brother-in-law, John Bolger. Patrick leaves to his family a legacy of love of America, Ireland, Notre Dame, and loyalty. Always in our hearts…Patrick will be waked at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY on Saturday, March 9th and Sunday, March 10th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place at the Church of Saint John and Saint Mary's in Chappaqua, NY on Monday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

I will always remember my best friend´s "Pop Pop" and how much he absolutely adored her. So many of our childhood memories included his presence, and I´m so grateful I got to witness the endless love he had for his family.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

A wife of your choice to you,
Land without rent to you,
A child every year to you,
And the light of heaven after this world for you."
