PETER MCCALL Obituary
Fr. Peter McCall, O.F.M. Cap. died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 while visiting Hawaii. He was 65 years old. McCall was born in Yonkers, NY on October 29, 1935. He attended high school at Fordham Prep from 1949 to 1954 when he entered the Capuchin Franciscan Order. Fr. Peter attended St. Anthony College in Hudson. NH and pronounced his solemn vows there on Sept. 1, 1958. Father has a Masters Degree from Fordham University in Educational Psychology and pursued graduate studies in Scripture and Spirituality. He was ordained to the priesthood on 1962 and his first assignment at Our Lady of Angels in East Harlem, NYC. In 1965, Fr. McCall traveled as a missionary to the Mariana Islands where he served as a high school teacher on Guam until September 1974. He returned to Yonkers as a teacher at Sacred Heart High School and became chaplain to the Sacramentine Sisters. Father remained a member of the Capuchin community in Yonkers until his death. He was the leader of the Sacred Heart Prayer Group from 1978 to 1982. At that time, he was given permission to work full time in the charismatic healing ministry. Together with Mrs. Maryanne Lacy, Fr. McCall founded the Peace of Christ Prayer Ministry. This Ministry consists of teams who sponsor healing services, workshops, days of recollection and instruction on healing prayer. Fr. Peter was the son of the late Ambrose V. McCall and Veronica Rush. He is survived by two brothers; Richard and John and a sister Anne Cofiell. Two brothers, the Rev. Thomas McCall, S.J. and Ambrose McCall, predeceased him. The wake will be held at the Capuchin Friary (St. Clare's Friary) 110 Shonnard Place in Yonkers, NY on Monday, March 19th for family and friars from 7-9PM. Fr. Peter will be lying in state at the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday March 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at 11 am. Burial will follow in the friars' cemetery at Sacred Heart. During his years in the Healing Ministry, Fr. Peter has touched the lives of many in the metropolitan area.
