RICHARD ROMMER Obituary

Richard Joseph Rommer (Dick), a 53 year resident of Pearl River, NY, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was 84. Mr. Rommer was a graduate of PS 68 in Brooklyn, NY, Townsend Harris High School, and City University of New York. He was an educator and taught at City College of New York, Columbia University, NYU, Long Island University, Marshall Law College, Nyack College and Kings College. Mr. Rommer was born April 3, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY to Richard and Hessie Rommer. Mr. Rommer served in the United States Army Air Force from 1940-1945 during WWII. He attained the rank of Lt. Col. Ret. Air Force Reserve after 36 years. He belonged to the John H. Secor Post 329 American Legion Pearl River, and the Pearl River Memorial Post 7370 VFW. Locally, he was a 53 year member of the Pearl River United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a youth minister. He was also a member of AARP and played piano for Senior Heirs at the Grace Conservative Baptist Church in Nanuet. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years Lenore (McCaffery); his loving daughters Judy (David) Poultney of Normal, IL, Patricia Rommer of Pearl River, Carol (Robert) Battey of Vancouver, WA; his twin sons Richard (Kathy) Rommer of Chester, VT and Robert (Gwen) Rommer of Venice, FL; and grandfather of Greg (Jody) and Derek (Carey) Poultney, Miranda and Krysta Rommer, Joshua, Elizabeth and Hannah Rommer, Russell, Cory and Brandon Battey. Great-grandchildren include Sarah and Colin, Ashley, Devin, Zachary, Samuel and Madeline. A Funeral Service will be 10 AM Saturday, April 10, 2004 at the United Methodist Church of Pearl River. Burial will follow at Fred Loescher Veteran's Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY. Visiting is Friday 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, Inc. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Pearl River Memorial Fund, 130 Franklin Ave., Pearl River, NY 10965.
