RICHARD SASSENBERG Obituary

Richard Sassenberg, 74, of Stamford, CT, formerly of Mamaroneck, NY, he was a Stamford resident for the past 8 years, he died at the Edgehill Health Care Center on Thursday, June 22, 2000 due to cardiac arrest. Born in Larchmont, NY, December 26, 1925, the son of the late Christian Conrad and Ann Iden Sassenberg. He spent most of his life in Mamaroneck and Larchmont. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was an underwater expert serving with the Navy Seals for 3 years. He was an avid water skier, and an avid boater. He won an Academy Award for Television Arts and Sciences in April 1976. He was awarded an Emmy for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1988. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School Class of 1943, Dartmouth Class of 1948. He did post graduate studies at Columbia School of Business and School of Radio and T.V Technique. He also attended Cornell University. He was the inventor and developed a device to clarify Film Protection. Survivors include his wife Mary Lou Cooper Sassenberg of Stamford, a daughter, Donna Sussen Tallis and her husband of Monroe, CT, 2 sons, Kurt Sussen Sassenberg of Westport, who worked closely with his father in business, and Bradford James Sassenberg of Mount Vernon, NY, a brother John Sassenberg of Armond Beach, FL, and a grandson Connor Bryce Tallis of Monroe, CT. His wife's children, the Terilli children, were very fond of Richard and loved him dearly. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, June 25, 2000 at 2pm, with The Rev. Matt Caulkins of the Christ and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Westport officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, on Sunday, June 25, 2000. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 1029 Main St., Stamford, CT 06902. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT, is handling the arrangements.
