New Rochelle - Rita Ann Colangelo, 88, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, N.Y. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 22nd at home surrounded by her family. Rita was born to the late Joseph and Rafaela ("Lulu") DeRosa on September 13, 1933. She was the loving wife of the late Anthony "Honeyboy" Colangelo, and dear mother of Joseph (Felicia) and Maria Staropoli (Glenn). Rita had five grandchildren: Alexa Cuzzi (Mike) and Michael Colangelo (Alexis), and Glenn, Rachel, and Rebecca Staropoli; and two great grandchildren, Anthony and Giovanna Cuzzi, all of whom she adored. Rita had many nieces and nephews, and is survived by her loving sister Angela (DeRosa) Schena. Rita worked for the City of New Rochelle for 35 years as the Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics, a title she wore with honor. In her spare time, Rita enjoyed going to the hair salon, cruising around town in her Mitsubishi Galant, and cooking up a dish of macaroni and meatballs. Above all, Rita was devoted to spending time with her family; they were her everything. She had a loving family and many great friends, and was adored by all who knew her. Arrangements will be handled by New Rochelle Funeral Home, formerly known as Cancro's Funeral Home, 104 Fourth St., New Rochelle, NY (914) 632- 7365. Visiting hours will be on Sunday September 26th between 3-8pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Name of Jesus, 75 Lispenard Avenue New Rochelle, NY 10801 on Monday September 27th at 10:30am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery to follow.
